Item #2 A Pen
Item 002 is a greatly oversized fountain pen. I like making pens on the lathe and I am constantly disappointed at how much wood is wasted when making smaller pens. This series of pens rejects the norms of pen size.
This pen is made of curly maple saved from the bargain bin at Rockler’s. If you look closely at the grain the pen seems to have curves where the outside of the pen is flat to the touch.
The pen measures 5 ½ inches long 1 ¼ inches at the widest point. This unique writing instrument is simply finished with shellac and polished with a mixture of beeswax and mineral oil. The ink cartridge can be accessed by unscrewing the fountain tip, which is currently filled with black ink.
